Giant hogweed is an invasive plant often found near rivers, waterways and disturbed ground. It can grow several meters tall, with large divided leaves, purple blotched stems and broad clusters of white flowers.

Warning: Do not touch Giant Hogweed. Its sap makes skin highly sensitive to sunlight and can cause severe burns, painful blisters and lasting scarring. Keep children and pets away from the plant. If sap touches the skin, wash it promptly, cover the area from sunlight and seek medical advice.
Treating Giant Hogweed
Gaia Environmental selects a control method after assessing the size of the infestation, growth stage and surrounding area before recommending a control plan. Options include targeted herbicide treatment, careful excavation and removal of plants and affected material, or a combination of methods. Our team plans the work to limit the contact with the hazardous sap and prevent seeds or plant material spreading.
We aim to act before plants set seed where possible. Follow up inspections are important because seedlings can continue to emerge from seed already in the ground.
